FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about booking, sessions, commercial photography, editing, delivery and more.

Booking & Availability

How do I book a photography session?
Start by sending a booking request with the type of photography you are looking for, your preferred date or dates, location and a little about what you have in mind.

I’ll confirm availability, price and any details we need to agree before the booking goes ahead.

Request a Booking / Check Availability
What if I don’t know my exact date yet?
That’s fine. Give me your preferred date plus one or two alternatives, or tell me if you’re flexible. It makes finding a suitable slot much easier.
Does sending a booking request secure my date?
No. A booking request is simply an enquiry about availability.

For most private bookings, your date is secured once the booking details have been agreed, the booking agreement has been completed and the required booking fee has been paid.
Will I receive a booking agreement?
Yes, where appropriate. Once the date, price and details have been agreed, I will send you confirmation together with a link to complete your booking agreement online.

Commercial commissions may use a separate commercial agreement because the brief, usage rights, invoicing and payment arrangements are different from private photography.
Can I reschedule my booking?
Usually, yes. Please give me as much notice as possible and I will try to move your booking to another available date.

Cancellation and rescheduling terms depend on the type of booking and are set out in your agreement and the Terms & Conditions.

Prices & Payment

How much does photography cost?
Prices depend on the type of photography, duration, location, coverage and what is included.

Many services have a starting price on the relevant page. Where a job is more bespoke — particularly commercial work, events and weddings — I will provide a quote based on the actual requirements.
When do private clients pay?
A booking fee is normally required to secure your date.

Unless we agree otherwise, the remaining balance is due no later than the day before your photography session.

Your confirmation and invoice will show exactly what is due and when.
When do commercial clients pay?
Commercial commissions are normally invoiced after the photography and delivery of the agreed work, unless a different arrangement has been agreed in writing beforehand.

Commercial fees are charged for the commissioned professional service — not per image unless specifically agreed otherwise.
How can I pay?
Payment instructions will be supplied with your booking confirmation or invoice.

Bank transfer is available and, where provided, you can use the payment link supplied with your booking or invoice.

Locations & Accessibility

Where is your studio?
Studio 50, 1853 Studios, Osborne Mill, Oldham, OL9 6QQ.

Studio visits are by appointment. I will send access and parking information before your session.
Is your studio wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The studio is wheelchair accessible and suitable for clients who use wheelchairs.

If you have any other access requirements, let me know when booking so I can make sure the setup and session plan work for you.
What if I have other accessibility requirements?
Please tell me what you need when we are planning your session.

Where possible, I can adapt the timing, setup, location, lighting, pace and way we work to make the photography more comfortable and accessible.
Do you photograph on location?
Yes. I work in homes, parks, workplaces, venues and other suitable locations as well as in the studio.

I regularly work across Greater Manchester and the North West and can travel further where required. Additional travel may be quoted where appropriate.
When is the studio the better option?
The studio is useful when you want controlled lighting, clean backgrounds, styled sets or a more private environment.

Location photography works particularly well when you want something more natural, documentary or connected to a particular place.

Your Session

Do I need to know how to pose?
No. I will give you direction when you need it and let things happen naturally when you don’t.

The aim is for you to look like yourself rather than feel as though you are performing for the camera.
What should I wear?
Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. Simple colours, layers and texture usually photograph well.

For groups, coordinating colours tends to work better than everybody wearing identical outfits. Avoid large distracting logos unless they are part of the look you want.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, where the type of session and available space allow. You are welcome to bring a friend, partner, family member or support person if it helps you feel more comfortable.

Please let me know beforehand where possible.
Do you provide hair, makeup or wardrobe?
Not as standard. You normally arrange your own clothing, hair and makeup.

Where appropriate, I can help arrange a hair/makeup artist or other specialist with advance notice. Any additional cost will be agreed before the booking.
What if I am late?
Please contact me as soon as you know you are running late.

I will do what I reasonably can, but where another booking, venue restriction or studio schedule follows your session, we may still need to finish at the original agreed time.
What happens if the weather is bad?
It depends on the session. We may use the weather creatively, move somewhere covered or indoors, or rearrange where conditions make the planned photography unsuitable or unsafe.

Images, Editing, Delivery & Products

What photographs do I receive?
You receive the final photographs selected and professionally edited by Shoots Photographs, in accordance with the package or commission you have booked.

Where a package includes a full edited gallery, that means the final selected and edited photographs from your session — not every frame taken.
Do I choose my photographs?
It depends on the package.

Some sessions include a set number of photographs and allow you to select your favourites from a gallery. Other packages include the full final edited gallery.

Your package or booking confirmation will explain what is included.
Do you provide RAW or unedited files?
No. RAW files, working files, unedited JPEGs, test shots, outtakes and rejected frames are not normally supplied.

The finished edited photographs are the final product.
How much retouching do you do?
Standard editing may include colour and exposure work, cropping, tonal adjustments, removal of distractions and appropriate retouching.

Temporary blemishes may be reduced where appropriate. I do not automatically make major changes to someone’s body, face or appearance.

More extensive retouching, compositing or creative manipulation can be discussed where it suits the commission.
Can I ask for extra editing?
Yes, depending on what is required.

Correcting an actual editing error is different from requesting a new style, extensive retouching or substantial digital changes.

Additional work outside the agreed service may be available for an additional fee.
How long does editing take?
Family and portrait sessions are usually delivered within around 2–3 weeks and are often ready sooner.

Larger events and commercial commissions may take longer depending on the amount of work involved.

I will give you an estimated turnaround when we agree the booking.

These times relate to digital image delivery. Prints and other physical products have their own production times.
How are photographs delivered?
Depending on the job, photographs may be delivered through a private online gallery, secure download, Google Drive or another agreed method.
How long will my online gallery or download remain available?
Where your photographs are supplied through an online gallery or download service, your delivery information will tell you how long access is expected to remain available.

Please download your finished photographs promptly and keep your own backup rather than relying on an online gallery as permanent storage.
Can I order prints or other photography products?
Yes. Prints, wall art and other photographic products may be available in addition to your digital images.

Product options vary depending on the photography and what you would like, so ask if you are interested and I can show you the available choices and prices.
Are prints and products included in my session price?
Only where they are specifically included in the package or quote you have chosen.

Otherwise, prints, wall art and other physical products are optional extras and are priced separately.
How long do prints and other products take?
Physical products have a separate production time from your edited digital gallery.

Turnaround varies depending on the product, size and supplier. I will give you an estimated delivery time when you place your order.
Can I order products after I have received my photographs?
Yes. You do not have to decide at the time of your photography session.

Once you have seen your finished photographs, you can choose whether you would like prints, wall art or other available products.

Family & Portrait Photography

What if my children won’t sit still?
That’s normal. Family photography does not depend on children sitting perfectly still and smiling at the camera.

I work with what is happening — play, movement, interaction and breaks where needed — and use more directed photographs when they suit the family.
Who can book photography involving children?
Photography involving children should normally be arranged by a parent, guardian or another person with appropriate authority to make the booking.

Please tell me before the session about any relevant restrictions or arrangements that may affect whether a child can be photographed or how the photographs may be used.
Can family sessions be outdoors?
Yes. Family sessions can take place in the studio, at home or outdoors.

Outdoor sessions are particularly good if you prefer a more relaxed, documentary feel.
Can grandparents or extended family join us?
Absolutely. Tell me roughly how many people will be involved when you enquire so I can recommend the most suitable session, location and setup.

Boudoir & Intimate Photography

Will my boudoir photographs stay private?
Yes. Boudoir and intimate photography is confidential by default.

Your photographs will not be used publicly by Shoots Photographs without your separate permission.
Do I need experience or know how to pose?
Not at all. I will guide you through poses, positioning and small adjustments while keeping the session comfortable and within the boundaries we agree beforehand.
What should I bring?
Bring a few options that make you feel good.

That might include lingerie, bodysuits, an oversized shirt, robe, knitwear, favourite jewellery or something completely different.

There is no requirement to wear lingerie or to show more than you are comfortable with.
Can I bring someone with me to a boudoir session?
Yes, you can usually bring a trusted friend, partner or support person.

Please let me know beforehand so I can make sure the studio setup and session plan allow for them comfortably.
Can I change my mind about something during the shoot?
Yes. You can change a boundary, decline a pose or activity, pause or stop the session at any time.

Your comfort and consent throughout the session matter more than getting a particular photograph.
Is boudoir photography 18+?
Yes. Boudoir, intimate, erotic and fetish/kink photography is strictly for participants aged 18 or over.

Photographic ID may be checked where appropriate.

Weddings, Ceremonies & Events

What is your photography style at events?
Mostly documentary and natural — genuine moments, people and atmosphere rather than constantly staging the day.

I will still step in and direct when needed for group photographs, portraits and other important planned shots.
Should I give you a shot list?
For important group photographs, particular people or specific details you definitely want covered, yes.

Send those before the event where possible.

Live events are unpredictable, so no photographer can guarantee every spontaneous moment.
Who checks whether photography is allowed at the venue?
The person or organisation arranging the event should check any restrictions imposed by the venue, officiant, registrar or organiser and tell me before the event wherever possible.
What happens if you are unable to attend?
If serious illness, injury or an emergency means I cannot attend, I will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.

Depending on the booking, I may offer an alternative date or, for a fixed event, try to arrange a suitable replacement photographer with your agreement where possible.

Full details are set out in the Terms & Conditions.
Do you photograph funerals and sensitive events?
Yes. These are approached quietly and respectfully.

We will agree the important timings, boundaries, coverage and privacy arrangements beforehand.

Commercial, PR & Organisational Photography

What commercial photography do you cover?
Commercial commissions can include events, PR, workplaces, people at work, property and interiors, headshots, organisations, community projects, marketing content and visual storytelling.

If you are not sure whether your project fits, send me the brief and I will tell you.
What information do you need for a commercial quote?
As much of the brief as you already know: date, location, expected coverage, duration, important people or areas, intended use, approximate number or type of photographs required and any particular brand or technical requirements.

If you have a shot list, brand guidelines or examples of an established photographic style that I am expected to follow, please send them before the shoot wherever possible.
What if the commercial brief changes?
Small practical adjustments are normal.

A significant change in coverage, style, locations, equipment, deliverables or requirements may change the scope and cost of the commission.

New requirements or visual references supplied after the photography has taken place cannot automatically be treated as part of the original brief.
Who is responsible for permissions at a commercial event or workplace?
The commissioning client or event organiser is responsible for arranging the necessary permissions, notices, safeguarding arrangements and internal authorisations for the people and locations under its control.

Please tell me about anyone who must not be photographed and any restrictions I need to follow.
Do commercial clients need a booking agreement?
Yes, wherever appropriate.

Once the brief, date and fee have been agreed, I can send a commercial commission agreement confirming the scope, usage, payment terms and other important details.

If your organisation requires a purchase order, please arrange this before the photography where possible.
If we don’t use every photograph, do we pay less?
No. Unless we have specifically agreed a per-image arrangement, the fee is for the commissioned photography service rather than the number of photographs your organisation eventually chooses to publish or use.
Are commercial reshoots included?
If an expressly agreed requirement has genuinely been missed because of my error, I will look at a reasonable way to correct it.

A new shoot caused by a changed brief, new style request, new brand guidance, unavailable participants, additional locations or requirements that were not part of the original commission is normally additional work and may be chargeable.

Training & Mentoring

Who is photography training for?
Training is tailored to the individual. I work with beginners, hobby photographers, students and people who simply want to understand their camera or improve a particular skill.
Do I bring my own camera?
Yes. One-to-one tuition is normally bring-your-own equipment so that you learn using the camera and kit you actually own.

Bring your camera, lenses, charged batteries and memory card. For editing lessons, bring your laptop and the software you use.
Where does training take place?
Training can take place in my studio or at an agreed location depending on what you want to learn.
Do you offer staff or business photography training?
Yes. Team training, day courses and bespoke sessions for organisations can be quoted around the skills your team needs.
How do current students access lesson materials?
Use the Student Downloads area.

Where a password is required, I will give it to you during your lesson.

Privacy, Image Use, AI & Copyright

Will you put my photographs online?
Private-client photographs are not used publicly by Shoots Photographs without appropriate permission.

Boudoir and intimate work receives additional confidentiality and is private by default.

Commercial portfolio use may be dealt with separately in the commercial agreement.
Do I need to sign a model release?
A model release or separate permission may be requested where I would like to use private-client photographs publicly.

You do not have to agree to public use in order to have a private photography session.
Do you use AI or digital editing in your photography?
Yes. I use professional editing tools, including Photoshop and AI-assisted tools, where they form part of the creative process.

This can include retouching, compositing, replacing or creating backgrounds, removing distractions, extending scenes, colour work and other digital enhancements.

For standard photography, editing is generally used to finish and enhance the photographs while keeping the people and events recognisably true to the session.

For creative, fantasy or conceptual work, AI-generated backgrounds and more substantial digital manipulation may be an intentional part of the final image and form part of the agreed style.
Can I request an AI or fantasy background?
Yes. AI-generated, digitally created or composited backgrounds can be used for suitable creative portraits and fantasy-style sessions.

Where possible, the intended style, mood and level of manipulation will be discussed beforehand.
Are my photographs used to train AI?
Shoots Photographs does not use client photographs for the purpose of training its own AI models and does not intentionally submit client photographs to third-party services for AI model training.

AI-assisted tools may process photographs when they are used for editing, retouching, background replacement, compositing or other agreed creative work.

Using an AI-assisted tool to perform an edit is different from using a photograph as training material for an AI model.
Who owns the copyright?
Copyright normally remains with Shoots Photographs.

Your booking gives you the appropriate licence to use the finished photographs.

Private clients receive personal-use rights once payment has been made. Commercial usage is governed by the agreed commercial licence.
Can I print and share my photographs?
Private clients can print, share and display their finished photographs for personal use once the booking has been paid for.

Commercial advertising, resale, stock use or other business use requires the appropriate commercial licence.
Where can I read the full privacy and legal information?
You can read the full Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy on the website.

Do you sell photography gift vouchers?
Yes. Gift vouchers can be supplied digitally or physically and can be for an agreed value or photography service.
How long are gift vouchers valid?
The validity period will be clearly stated on the voucher when it is purchased.
