Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park is a public Victorian town park in the Glodwick area of Oldham, England, which was built between 1861-1865 by the people of Oldham during the Lancashire cotton famine which was sparked by the American Civil War which prevented the export of raw cotton from America to Oldham. The construction of the park was an attempt to keep local textile workers employed as Oldham was wholly reliant on the textile industry and due to the cotton famine the economy of Oldham became strained and chronic unemployment was a result.
This project in the park began during the 2020 lockdown when I noticed an increase of people visiting the park. The increase in visitors to the park gave the park a new dimention, the variation of ways people used the park to relieve them of their boredom during lockdown became of interest to me and I attempted to capture the park in various ways.

The park constantly remains the same but is always changing. The concept of something being so static yet has an element of fluidity to it adds unending opportunities.
